The T20 History of UAE
The United Arab Emirates are fairly inexperienced cricket team when it comes to international match play and that includes Twenty20. At the time of writing, the UAE have only featured in one T20 World Cup although they will double their number of appearances by showing up at the 2022 tournament.
When Bangladesh hosted the 2014 T20 World Cup, then the United Arab Emirates were able to qualify and they were pitched in the opening round of the competition where the team lined up in the same group as Netherlands, Zimbabwe and Ireland.
The UAE clashed with Netherlands on 17 March and they were defeated by six wickets, with the team then meeting Ireland and there was another defeat when losing by 21 runs on the Duckworth-Lewis method. The final defeat came against the Zimbabweans.
Who Holds the T20 Records for UAE?
There are plenty of prominent performers that have represented the UAE cricket team, with the highest team total being recorded against Kuwait on 27 February 2020. There was a score of 199/5 that was achieved at Oman Cricket Academy Ground Turf 1, Muscat.
Previously to this, Shaiman Anwar was able to clock the highest individual score. He was able to rack up 117 runs and finished not out against Papua New Guinea. This happened on 14 April 2017 and this was achieved at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi.
The best individual bowling figures were 5/19, achieved by Ahmed Raza v. Nepal on 22 February 2022 at Oman Cricket Academy Ground Turf 1, Muscat.
